A 4 day birding safari starts and ends in Kigali. On this safari, visit Nyungwe Forest, the massive montane forest found in southern Rwanda and the largest in Central Africa. Nyungwe is home to 13 primate species including chimpanzee and large groups of Rwenzori Colobus. Around 300 bird species, orchids and butterflies are other attractions that are within the park. While on safari, clients stay 3 nights at the basic ORTPN Gisakura Rest house which is situated on the Western edge of Nyungwe forest.

Trip Overview

Day 1: To Nyungwe Forest National Park. Visit the old palace in Nyanza. O/D ORTPN Rest House (FB)

Day 2: Birding and Nature Walks in Nyungwe Forest Walk. O/D ORTPN Rest House (FB)

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe Forest.O/D ORTPN Rest House (FB)

Day 4: Return to Kigali. Visit the cultural museum in Butare. Transfer to the airport.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Nyungwe Forest National Park Safari
After a briefing about your safari, drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Visit the old palace in Nyanza and drive past green hills of tea and the vast Nyungwe Forest. Overnight and dinner at ORTPN Rest house (FB)

Day 2: Nyungwe Forest Walk
Undertake a guided nature walk in search of the large groups of Colobus monkeys and birds including the Rwenzori turaco or undertake chimp tracking. You will have Picnic lunch while in the park and return in the late afternoon. Overnight and dinner ORTPN Rest house (FB)

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking
Early in the morning undertake chimp tracking. Dinner and overnight at ORTPN Rest House (FB)

Day 4: Return to Kigali
Drive back to Kigali. En route, you will visit the cultural museum in Butare. Transfer to airport for your onward flight.
