The 3 Days Nyiragongo hiking tour to the summit of the Mt Nyiragongo, an active volcano with the world’s largest lava lake, is a great spectacle. The volcano summit offers clear views of the entire Virunga national park and the surrounding communities. The adjacent Mt Mikeno and the active Mt. Nyaramuragira give great spectacular views found nowhere else in Africa. The neighboring tropical rainforest on the slopes of Virunga ranges is home to the mountain gorillas.
The Nyiragongo Volcano erupted on 22nd May 2021 and left 32 people dead and over 1000 homes in Eastern DR Congo destroyed. A distinct flank fissure eruption resulted into intense seismicity, lava flows as far as Goma city and lava lake drainage coupled with ash plumes.

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali , Boat cruise & transfer to Goma
After breakfast at your hotel, our driver guide will pick and transfer you to Gisenyi on lake Kivu for a boat cruise. later retire at a lodge in Gisenyi town for lunch and then proceed to Goma. Dinner and overnight at Mikeno lodge/Bukavu tented camp.
Day 2: Nyiragongo hike
This is a day for hiking to the summit of Mt Nyiragongo, an active volcano in the heart of Virunga national park. After a heavy morning breakfast transfer to the park headquarters for briefing at the hiking starting point. Hiking starts at 10:00am taking you roughly 6 hours to reach the summit of the volcano. Dinner and overnight at the tented camp.
Day 3: Descending & Departure
In the early morning, enjoy the sun rise breakfast on the slopes of Nyiragongo Volcano and enjoy your last moments on the summit of the active volcano. Thereafter, hike down, meet your driver guide and transfer to Kigali for your connecting flight
