The 5 Days Birding Safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to more than 606 bird species! This trip offers a  a genuine rainforest wilderness experience and an excellent opportunity to see some of the rare birds in Uganda! Queen Elizabeth National Park offers birding in different habitats that include forests, savanna grasslands, lakes and wetlands. This trip combines the comfort of beautiful lodges with the experience to spend a night camping in the wild.

Trip Overview – 5 Days Birding Safari

Day 1: Travel to Queen Elizabeth NP. Go birding in Crater Area & Mweya Peninsula.
Day 2: Morning game drive and bird watching. Afternoon boat launch. Evening game drive.
Day 3: Bird in Maramagambo Forest and through Kamirenjojo Trail, Paki Trail and Kyasanduka Trail
Day 4: Bird in the Ishasha Sector.

Detailed – 5 Days Birding Safari

Day 1: Kampala – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Very early in the morning after breakfast, head west of Kampala to Queen Elizabeth national park. Watch out for game enroute to reach in time for lunch. You will then check in at Mweya Safari Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you will then  go birding in the crater area and Mweya peninsula to look out for wide spread grassland species such as Marsh Tchagra, croaking Cisticola, migrant harriers such as Pallid and montage’s and many others. Dinner and overnight at Mweya safari lodge.

Day 2: Birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast drive towards Lake Kikorongo and the Kasenyi track for more birding in the park. Watch out for birds like Common Squacco Heron, Glossy and sacred Ibises in the Kikorongo Area. The Kasenyi track has much to offer for birders. It passes through grass plains which support large numbers of stork in seasons as well as raptors such as brown snaked eagle and martial eagle. Retire for lunch and in the afternoon embark on a launch cruise on the Kazinga channel to watch out for both resident and non resident species such as the African morning dove and Eurasian Honey Bizzard respectively. The birds surround animal species such as hippopotami and buffaloes. Dinner and Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Day 3: Full Day Birding in Maramagambo Forest
Go for full day birding in the Maramagambo Forest – the south eastern sector of the park. The Entrance road to the forest passes through seasonally moist grassland that supports warblers, Singing Cisticola, Marsh tchagra, black bishop waxbills. You will walk along three trails which are best for birding, i.e. the Kamirenjojo trail, the Paki Trail and the Kyasanduka trail. Watch out for birds like Red headed blue bill, Blue breasted Kingfisher, Black winged Oriole, Chestnut breasted Negrofinch, Red-tailed Bristle bill and Green Crombec. Dinner and overnight at Jacana Safari Lodge (luxury) / Kingfisher (mid-range)

Day 4: Bird in the Ishasha Sector
Early in the morning go birding in the Ishasha sector of the park. You will watch out for the Yellow-throated leaf love, Grey woodpecker, African Emerald Cuckoo, Little green bull, black-necked weaver, striking red headed bluebill, Collared sunbirds at the waterside thickets. Watch out for crepuscular African Hobby over head in the evenings, Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl, African wood Owl, are often Heard in the camp at night. Dinner and Overnight at Ishasha Camp

Day 5 : Return to Kampala
After breakfast, drive back to Kampala, reaching late afternoon.
