The 2 days Rwanda gorilla tour guarantees viewing the rare mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park. You will be allocated to trek one of the 12 habituated gorilla groups in the park and you will be guided by experienced and professional guides and rangers through the montane rainforest who ensure that you meet and interact with your gorilla group.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali city tour – transfer to Volcanoes Gorilla park (2-3hrs)

On arrival at the airport, our driver guide will welcome you and take you for a city tour including a visit to Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre and the women handicrafts market among others. After lunch proceed to Volcanoes national park in the northwest of Rwanda. It is a 2-hour drive from Kigali to the park along a well tarmacked road. Dinner and overnight at Mountain gorilla view lodge/Gorilla solution lodge/ Da Vinci gorilla lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure

As early as 6:30am, enjoy breakfast and thereafter transfer to the national park headquarters for briefing before trekking. At 8:00am you will start to hike into the forest with the lead of an armed guide following specific trails in search for gorillas. Ordinarily it takes between 2-6 hours to meet the gorillas. Visitors are permitted to spend an hour in the presence of mountain gorillas. This is popularly known as a ‘magical hour’ full of amazing memories as you watch gorillas which share 98% of the human DNA go about their daily routines. While in the presence of gorillas, visitors are advised to observe the gorilla trekking guidelines including not getting so close to them and maintaining silence. Trekkers are permitted to take photos of the gorillas though without using flash cameras.
Return for lunch at the lodge / hotel and transfer back to Kigali. Depending on your departure flight schedule, your will be transferred to the airport.

Volcanoes National park is located in northwest Rwanda near the country’s borders with Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The park is part of the greater Virunga Mountains, a conservation area that straddles the borders of the 3 countries. The park protects about 350 mountain gorillas and this population has been increasing over the years due to the intensive conservation efforts undertaken by both government and other wildlife organisations such as the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Besides mountain gorillas, the park protects a variety of other wildlife species including primates like golden monkeys, 90 mammal species, over 300 species of birds, among others. Volcanoes national park is also home to 5 of the 8 volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains. These include Karisimbi, Sabyinyo, Bisoke, Gahinga and Muhabura.
