7 Days Kenya Safari – detailed itinerary 

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi capital city

Our tour guide/driver will meet and pick you up at Jomo Kenyatta International airport.Then drive to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. If time allows, you can visit one of the animal orphanage centers in Nairobi, the Sheldrick Elephant Trust. The center takes care of rescued baby giraffes, elephants, and rhinos before releasing them back into the wild. You can show your generosity and adopt an animal for charity and goodwill of Kenyan wildlife. The other optional thing to do is to visit the Kenyatta Convention Center rooftop for sunset and views of the city.

Day 2: Nairobi to Lake Naivasha national park

Lake Naivasha is 104 km (2-hour drive) north west of Nairobi. After enjoying breakfast, you will travel by private car and descend into the rift valley floor. Arrive and check into your lodge and later go for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Naivasha. Another optional activity available is a guided nature walk with a ranger. The only freshwater lake in the rift valley of Kenya, lake Naivasha attracts hippos, crocodiles. The grasslands that surround the lake are home to large mammal species including giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, grant’s gazelles, bushbucks as well as predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. The lake was once used as an airstrip for flying boats coming from the United Kingdom to Nairobi.

Accommodation: Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge situated on the banks of Lake Naivasha with views of Mount Longonot (2,776 m.a.s.l), an extinct volcano to the south east.

Day 3: Naivasha to Lake Nakuru national park

Lake Nakuru is 80 km (1-hour drive) north of Naivasha. You will reach there for a mid morning game drive. With packed lunch, you will have an all day fun with a picnic at the rocky outcrops like Baboon cliff and Lion Hill that Inspired the movie Out of Africa (1985). You will see the lake and the rift valley from those vantage points.Continue your evening wildlife drive before going to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Lake Nakuru national park is rich in biodiversity with 56 mammal species including black and white rhinos, which are the main attraction. There are also giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, gazelles, and impalas. Lake Nakuru also offers excellent bird watching with over 450 bird species including the lesser and greater flamingos on the lake.

Day 4: Nakuru to Masai Mara national reserve 

From Nakuru it is a long distance road covering 236 km (6-hour drive) to Masai Mara in the rift valley south west Kenya. Arrive in the afternoon, settle into the lodge for lunch, and then go on a game drive in the evening to see wildlife. The open grasslands of Masai Mara national reserve are habitat for the Big 5 African mammals including rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, lions, and leopards, and over 500 species of birds. The wildebeests annually cross the Mara and Talek rivers between July and September. There are lookout points to enjoy the sight of the migration. Cheetahs, African painted dogs, spotted hyenas, impalas, zebras, giraffes, gazelles, elands, and bushbucks live in the reserve. The riverine forests along the rivers also support hippos, crocodiles, and bushbucks. There are several ways to experience the wildlife such as game drives, guided bush walks, hot air balloon safari. The park also offers opportunities to experience the history and culture of the Maasai people. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Full day in Masai Mara

Visitors will go on a game drive with a knowledgeable tour guide in the early morning before sunrise. That’s the best time to seek out predators like lions, African wild dogs, cheetahs, and leopards. You have the choice to either return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation, or to take a packed lunch to maximize wildlife viewing at noon. Most large mammals are near water sources, especially elephants. Besides the game drive, the other activity you could do in the early morning is a hot-air balloon safari, which includes champagne and a bush dining experience. The evening game drive is enchanted by golden sunsets, sundowners, and campfire at the lodge before dinner and overnight. Day 6: Walking safari or community visit and transfer to Nairobi 

After breakfast, you can visit the Maasai community to take part in cultural activities or go on a guided bush walk to see wildlife on foot with a ranger. You will check out of Mara after completing your activity and drive to Nairob, arriving in the late afternoons. Check in and unwind at the hotel as you prepare for your departure flight tomorrow. You may go out for a nightlife experience.
