3 Days Chimpanzee Safari – Kibale Forest National Park

The 3 days chimpanzee safari in Kibale Forest National Park offers the best opportunity to chimp enthusiasts to meet them in one of their leading habitats.  Kibale Forest National Park is the home to the  largest number of our closest living relatives, the endangered chimpanzees as  well as the threatened red colobus monkeys and the rare L’Hoesti monkey. The park  has one of the highest diversity and density of primates in Africa  up to 13 species including the black-and-white colobus, blue monkey and  grey-cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkey, bush babies and pottos.

The park  also boasts of over 325 bird species Chimpanzee safari
including the Yellow-spotted nicator,  Yellow-rumped tinkerbird, and little greenbul, the African Pitta, Green-breasted  Pitta, the Crowned Eagle and the black bee-eater. There is an impressive  population of forest elephants, buffaloes, duikers, bush pigs, and bats. Over 250  tree species have been recorded. There are over 1,450 individuals of chimps  protected within the park. Thus chimpanzee tracking is the main activity in  Kibale national park. There are more than 90% chances of seeing the  chimpanzees.

Trip itinerary

Day 1: Kampala to Kibale National Park
After your breakfast, transfer by road through Mubende to Fort Portal. The journey takes between 4 to 5 hours to reach Fort Portal. After lunch at the Mountain of the Moon hotel or similar other, you may have a community walk or visit the Crater lakes region for their spectacular view. Dinner and overnight at Rwenzori Guest View Hotel (FB)

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking
Take an early morning breakfast transfer to Kanyanchu for a briefing and registration and begin chimp tracking. The wildlife experience in this tropical rainforest is overwhelming. For birders, the afternoon may be dedicated to birding in either Sebitoli Forest Centre or Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at Rwenzori Guest View Hotel (FB)

Day 3: Return to Kampala
After breakfast return to Kampala. After lunch in Kampala, a city tour of Kampala is recommended.
