Day 1

Gorilla trekking – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Being the most tenacious, gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is preferred to be the first exercise on this lucrative itinerary. The encounter starts with an early morning briefing where trekkers are given some key information to guide them through the exercise including the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking.

A group of 8 trekkers allocated to visit one gorilla group and the journey begins through the thick montane rainforest of and it may take between 2 and 6 hours before reaching your allocated group depending on where it is roaming from.

The experience of finally meeting these gentle giants in their natural habitat is phenomenal. It has been described as one of the best in the world by the past trekkers. Visitors are permitted to spend an hour in the presence of gorillas and this is termed as the “magical hour” which is spent while watching them feed, play in an amazing way that makes you believe that they are indeed our close relatives with whom we share 98% of our DNA.

While in the presence of gorillas, trekkers are free to take their pictures and videos though they are encouraged to observe the recommended distance of at least 7 meters between them and the animals. Other important observations in the presence of gorillas include maintaining silence, avoiding littering their habitat and avoiding direct eye-contact with them.

At the end of the gorilla trekking encounter, most trekkers admit that the emotional and intriguing experience they got in the presence of these elusive animals were worth every penny, time and energy they spent in searching for them. In preparation for the Next’s day activities, you are transferred from Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park which is about 3-hour drive away.

Day 2

Chimpanzee tracking and game viewing – Queen Elizabeth National Park

Chimpanzee tracking in either Kyambura or Kalinzu is the first on the day’s menu taking place early in the morning to catch up with the early waking chimps. Like gorillas, chimps are our close relatives sharing 98% of our DNA and this is evidently seen in the way they react and respond to humans.

After tracking chimpanzees, an afternoon game drive through the vast Queen Elizabeth National Park awaits. One of the most outstanding sightings on this game drive is the view of the amazing tree-climbing lions of Ishasha sector. Other big game species commonly seen include Buffalo, elephant, leopard, giraffe, zebra as well as small species like antelopes, warthog, duiker, among others.

Later in the afternoon after the game drive, the activity-filled two days are concluded with a relaxed boat cruise on the famous Kazinga Channel still in Queen Elizabeth National Park. in addition to enjoying the cruise, travelers are rewarded with breathtaking sightings of some rare species of aquatic birds, hippos and elephants which usually roam along the banks of the channel.
